Event Details

A World Heritage site, is famous for its ruins belonging to the erstwhile medieval Hindu kingdom of Vijaynagar settled on the banks of river Tungabhadra.  The temples of Hampi, its monolithic sculptures and monuments are famous for their excellent workmanship. On the south bank of the River Tungabhadra is the 7th-century Hindu Virupaksha Temple, near the revived Hampi Bazaar. East of Hampi Bazaar is the UNESCO-listed 16th century Vittala Temple, the undisputed highlight of the ruins.

Badami cave temples-
The Badami Caves complex is part of a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site candidate under the title "Evolution of Temple Architecture – Aihole-Badami-Pattadakal" in the Malaprabha river valley, considered a cradle of temple architecture that formed the model for later Hindu temples in the region.
Badami caves is  a complex of four Hindu cave temples which dates from the 6th century. Badami was the capital of the early Chalukya dynasty. Cave 1, have a prominent carving of Tandava-dancing Shiva as Nataraja. Cave 2 features Hindu subjects of which the relief of Vishnu as Trivikrama. Cave 3 is the largest one featuring Vishnu-related mythology, and it is also the most intricately carved cave in the complex. Cave 4 is dedicated to revered figures of Jainism.

Pattadakal, represents the high point of an eclectic art which, in the 7th and 8th centuries under the Chalukya dynasty, achieved a harmonious blend of architectural forms from northern and southern India. An impressive series of nine Hindu temples as well as a Jain sanctuary can be seen. One masterpiece from the group stands out – the Temple of Virupaksha, built c. 740 by Queen Lokamahadevi to commemorate her husband's victory over the kings from the South.

It is a major archaeological site featuring over one hundred and twenty stone and cave temples from 4th to 12 century, spread along the Malaprabha river valley. Aihole along with Badami emerged as the cradle of experimentation with temple architecture, stone artwork, and construction techniques. This resulted in 16 types of free-standing temples and 4 types of rock-cut shrines. The experimentation in architecture and arts that began in Aihole yielded the group of monuments at Pattadakal, a UNESCO world heritage site.
