The Tarsar Marsar trek takes you right to the heart of Kashmir. From the quaint village of Aru to the clearings of Lidderwat. From the rolling green mountains of Shekhawas to the massive alpine lakes. Tarsar-Marsar Trek beginning from the beautiful Pahalgam Valley that is situated along the Lidder River. The trek covers places that are impeccable in beauty. Trekkers can witness the diversity of the region as the trail crosses through wide plains, lush meadows, flower-decked valleys, and grassy knolls. The small streams cascading in the natural pools and the lofty snow-clad mountains are also the highlights of this unforgettable trek. It is not just the fact that you get to camp beside these royal blue snow-fed lakes, but you also get to circumvent the entire perimeter of Tarsar and Sundersar, offering you multiple perspectives of the lake. The elusive Marsar lake which is always hidden under a shroud of clouds. You see this lake from an overhang 600 –700 ft above.

Day 1- 08 Aug’21
Srinagar to Aru base camp on the bank of Lidder River
Altitude - 7,950ft
Depart from Srinagar by 2 pm
Drive - 4 hrs, Srinagar to Aru
Stay in Tent

Report Srinagar airport before 2.00 pm then vehicle can be arranged from Srinagar airport till base camp
(Participants will have to bear the cost of transport till base camp)

Our first day destination is Aru on the banks of Lidder river, situated 12 km off Pahalgam. 
At Aru, you will be welcomed at a river-side camping zone near Lidder river. 

Day 2- 09 Aug’21 Aru to Lidderwat
Altitude - 7,950 to 9,150ft
Trek - 10 km trek, 6 hrs
Easy terrain, gradual ascent
Stay in tents

An easy to moderate trek from Aru Valley to Lidderwat is via pine forests and lush meadows along the stream. The trek begins with a mild yet long climb from the village of Aru to Lidderwat. The trail snakes along the cool Ladder river. A few minutes into the trek, and you can see the beautiful Aru valley behind. Soon the trail enters beautiful forests of fir and opens out to the Dalla clearing. Now the trek becomes gentler and evener, later on the trail curves into dense fir forests, and in to the stunning meadows of Lidderwat. 

Day 3- 10 Aug’21 Lidderwat to Shekwas
Altitude - 9,150 to 11,000ft
Trek - 5.5 km trek, 5 hrs
Moderate terrain, continuous ascent for first few hours
Stay in tents

An easy to moderate trek today, we will continue the trail alongside the Lidder river and enter the fantastic forests of pine. Move past the cluster of trees and watch incredible views unfold before you. The expansive grasslands of Lidderwat blend in with the snowy mountains, along with misty valleys. There will be multiple clear water streams cutting across our path, the meadows of Shekwas are breath-taking. The trail enters a tapering valley graced by a snaking blue river and soon leads to the lovely campsite of Shekwas.

Day 4- 11 Aug’21 Shekwas to Tarsar and Explore Tarsar
Altitude - 11,000 to 12,500ft
Trek - 5 km trek, 4 hrs
Moderate terrain, continuous gradual ascent
Carry enough water, only few natural sources are available
Stay in tent

Once you leave Shekwas, the trail along the path leading up to Tarsar via a ridge overlooking a stream. The narrow ridges pop up to stunning views of the valley. Later the trail offers a slight sneak peek into the wonderful Tarsar lake. Crossing a stream through rocky terrains and boulders land you at the grasslands of Tarsar and Tarrsar’s magnetic blue waters.

Day 5- 12 Aug’21 Tarsar to Sundarsar
Altitude - 12,500 to 13,100ft
Trek - 5 km trek, 5 hrs
Moderate to difficult terrain

The Tarsar Pass commands numerous beautiful views, and the valley spans out beautifully. The trail that descends from the pass to the bottom of the valley opens to a verdant valley. Another stretch of meadows, grasslands, streams, and boulders brings you to the magical campsite of Sundarsar Lake.

Day 6- 13 Aug’21 Visit Marsar and then to Homwas
Altitude - Marsar ridge 13,400ft, Homwas 11,500ft
Trek - 9 km trek, 7 hrs
Moderate terrain
1 hr continuous ascent to Marsar ridge
Gradual descent all the way to Homwas

The trail from Sundarsar stretched far across the lake, and towards Marsar. The trail goes over boulders and is a bit tricky. The path opens to grassy patches, and past a few beautiful brooks. The climb leads to stunning vistas of Marsar, enveloped in cloudy haloes. Now we descend back to Sundarsar camps and then to Homwas, trailing almost along the same way that we came by. Homwas is reached before nigh fall, slightly exhausted.

Day 7- 14 Aug’21 Homwas to Aru and drive to Srinagar
Altitude - 11,500 to 7,950 ft
Trek - 13 km trek, 6 hrs
Easy terrain
Continuous gradual descent till Aru

Vehicle can be arranged from Aru till Srinagar
(Participants will have to bare the cost of transport to Srinagar)

Starting off early morning today, we descend from Homwas to Aru, sweeping over the same enchanting meadow lands we had experienced on the first days, and the same Lidder River, now to be followed downstream. It is a 10 km walk from Liddervat to Aru. From here, you depart for Srinagar, which is an hour's drive away.

  • The above plan is based on an “Ideal” scenario where everything goes per plan & considering that there is no breakdown. It is subject to change in Real Time based on ground realities.
  • Pre-paid mobiles sim cards don not work in Kashmir.

  • Any other tax or service charge stay charge that could be enforced during this period will be Extra and need to be borne by participant.
  • Any service not specifically mentioned in the Includes sections.
  • Any kind of refund for unutilised trek/ tour plan services.
  • Participants who dropped in the middle of trek and decide to return back for any reason will have to bear the cost including transportation, stay, food etc.

All travelers are advised to purchase travel insurance that provide care and services for sickness, Accidents, emergency rescue, ted. Related to international travel.

Cancellation policy:
  • Cancellations prior to 90 days from the start of the trek — 90% refund
  • Cancellation between 89 days and 40 days to the start of the trek — 50% refund
  • Cancellation less than 39 days to the start of the trek — no refund.
  • If a trek is called off at the last moment due to Political unrest/ Natural calamity/ Unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike/bandh etc.), Nisarga Bhraman will not be responsible and will not give any refund.
  • Drop out during trek: If for some reason a participant has to drop out from the trek on any day then Nisarga Bhraman, will make arrangements for his/her return up-to base camp. The travelling & stay cost has to be borne by the participant.

Rules & Regulations
  • Consumption of alcohol, Drugs, Narcotics is strictly banned on the event & should lead to expulsion from the trek
  • The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No arguments will be entertained
  • Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage
  • Avoid medication such as sleeping tablets, sedatives, strong painkillers, and anti-histamines Which depress the respiration and increase the risk of AMS- (Acute Mountain Sickness) especially while sleeping
  • Please do not wear any jewellery or gold chains/rings
  • Please do not litter, we believe in the saying, “Wherever you go, leave only your footprints and take back only memories.”


Hiking / Trekking / Rock climbing is an adventurous activity and accidents can happen despite taking utmost caution and care. The organization will not be responsible for any injury / accident / death to the participant while on trek.
Medical Disclaimer:
It is Important to be physically fit while on treks. If suffering from any allergy or ailment, please bring prescribed medicines to prevent serious health problem including heatstroke, severe headache, cough, dehydration and hypothermia. Participants suffering from chronic conditions like asthma bronchitis, blood pressure, migraine, diabetes etc. should take permission from their physicians before treks.
