Snow Leopard special- Wildlife tour to Hemis National Park 16-21 Feb'20

Event Details

Hemis National Park- is a high-altitude national park in the eastern Ladakh Union Territory of the India. Globally famous for its snow leopards, it is believed to have the highest density of them in any protected area in the world. The park is home to a viable breeding population of about 200 snow leopards, especially in the Rumbak catchment area. Along with the snow leopard the park is home for Argali (Great Tibetan Sheep), Bharal (Blue Sheep), Shapu (Ladakhi Urial), Asiatic Ibex, Tibetan wolf, the Eurasian brown bear, and the red fox. Small mammals include the Himalayan marmot, mountain weasel and the Himalayan mouse hare.
The Rumbak Valley offers opportunities for birdwatching, including several Tibetan species like brown accentor, robin accentor, Tickell's leaf warbler, streaked rosefinch, black-winged snowfinch, chukar, Blyth's swift, red-billed chough, Himalayan snowcock, the fire-fronted serin, The golden eagle, lammergeier vulture, and Himalayan griffon vulture.

Duration- 6 Days & 6 Nights


Day 1- (16 Feb'20) Arrive in Leh

Pickup from Leh airport and transfer to guest house. Full day rest in guest house.
Overnight stay at Guest house.

Day 2- (17 Feb'20) Leh - Zingchen - Rumbak Village.

After breakfast we will depart toward Zingchen by vehicle and then trek till Rumbak village (~ 4 hrs). Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 3- (18 Feb'20) Rumbak Valley to Stok La to Rumbak Valley

Post breakfast at Camp we will start trek toward Stok-la and in and around Rumbak valley to spot the beautiful snow leopard and if lucky other wild animals.
Overnight at camp.

Day 4 & 5- (19 & 20 Feb'20) Rumbak Valley

These two days we will explore Rumbak valley and try to spot snow leopard. There are certain spots where leopards normally visit in search of pray.
Overnight at Camp.  

Day 6- (21 Feb'20) Rumbak Valley - Zingchen - Leh

After breakfast we will come down toward Zingchen and from there onward road journey to Leh.
Overnight in guest house.

Day 7- (22 Feb'20) Post breakfast transfer to airport.

Event Cost
Rs. 25,000/- per person only (Ex Leh)
+ Forest entry charges Approx. Rs. 1,000/-per day (Rs. One thousand only)

Cost includes-

  • Hotel/ Home stay accommodation at Leh for 2 nights on MAP basis (Bed, Breakfast & Dinner included)
  • Pickup & Drop from Leh airport to hotel
  • Surface Transfers from Leh Hotel to Base Camp and Back to Hotel
  • Tented accommodation in Rumbek along with Sleeping bag to sustain temperature up to -40°C
  • All meals during the trek and would be simple, nourishing & vegetarian.

  • Additional costs for Hotel accommodation, transport services due to flight cancellation, or any other issues.
  • Additional accommodation and food expenses if trek gets delayed due to weather, health or any other reason.
  • Expenses for evacuation and rescue operations due to natural calamity, mishaps, injury or any health problem.
  • Wildlife Fees, Environmental Fees and other fees that are being put forward by LAHDC organization.
  • Any other items which is specifically not mentioned in the above INCLUSIONS.

Rules & Regulations
  • Consumption of alcohol, Drugs, Narcotics is strictly banned on the event & should lead to expulsion from the trek
  • The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No arguments will be entertained
  • Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage
  • Please do not wear any jewelry or gold chains/rings
  • Please do not litter, we believe in the saying, “Wherever you go, leave only your footprints and take back only memories.”

Hiking / Trekking / Rock climbing is an adventurous activity and accidents can happen in spite of taking utmost caution and care. The organization will not be responsible for any injury / accident / death to the participant while on trek.

Medical Disclaimer:
It is Important to be physically fit while on treks. If suffering from any allergy or ailment, please bring prescribed medicines to prevent serious health problem including heatstroke, severe headache, cough, dehydration and hypothermia. Participants suffering from chronic conditions like asthma bronchitis, blood pressure, migraine, diabetes etc. should take permission from their physicians before treks.
